Allright, we were awoken by old mate in his tractor trailer taking off after breakfast at about 6.30am. Remember we are overnighting at the rear of Country Kettle.
Into that fine establishment and Lib has the sensible fruit platter and I have Mummas Sourdough Breakfast, Four slices of sourdough french toast with ice cream and syrup, with a side of eggs, country ham and hash brown casserole, oh well.
All aboard the Luvshah and head for Knoxville Tenessee.
As we bypass Chattanoogga Petal pulls from her purse the trusty list of Quilt shops that she resourced prior to our departure and lo and behold, praise the lord, there is one at Chattahoochee, so exut stage left and off to the Lavender Quilt shop.
Whilst Petal is exploring this shop I go and get a lead from Radio Shack for Ipod to Luvshack stereo and in a matter of moment have ACDC cranking in the car-park.
Off from there and we decide it lunchtime so off we go to Red Lobster, another chain restaurant, not buffet bit off the menu and like all food affairs over here, cheap.
Had a little splurge with prawn and lobster linguine, shrimp, deep fried of course as well as garlic, clam chowder, and mushrooms stuffed with lobster and shrimp together with drinks. Grand total $50. All that and a doggy bag for the petal.
Will talk further about American food and eateries further down.
OK on the road again, which reminds me I watched a special on hum on one of the cable channels last night,( Willie Nelson of course}, on Larry King. Good show, anyway off we go again and decide to settle for the night at Cleveland, a little backwater place but supposedly with and Amish community.
Talking to the owners that night it appears the community is at Depona on the backroad to Knoxville but is a Menonite community and won't be out tomorrow, Sunday.
Bed down for the night and Sunday morning do the domestics, Petal washes clothes whilst I rinse the shitter tank a couple times and get it sparkly clean again.TOp upp water tanks and off we go to Depona.
Now Petal and I use our Inspector Cleuso talents and find the buggy tracks along the side of the road together with not so old horse droppings and what do we find, absolutely nothing. We go to the Community Market which were operating yesterday and apart from the Menonite fields next door and a couple of penthouse chook cages, nothing else.
Back on the road to Knoxville and time for a late lunch, 2.30pm.
Now lets talk about American eating habits.
95% of roadside businesses are eateries of some sort, We have never seen as many different chains of eateries and in the main they are the same. Burgers, catfish, ribs, deep fried.
Now today we pass the huge billboard, Hibachi Barbeque and supreme buffet. Landing gear down final approach and Luvshack into air curtain three.
Welllllll. how do I describe it. Just as well number one, Scotto wasn't here. Would have had to bring the bobcat.
As you passed the 3 metre buffet of sushi being freshly made by old mate Yukimoto and glance sideways at the Hibachi BBQ being attended to by Yacitora with it adjoining 3 metre buffet of fresh ingredients which you assemble on your plate for the aforementioned to Hibashi, you then catch a glimpse of the other 10, yes 10, 3 metre double sided buffets of over 250 different type of food, from garlic bread, roast hams, seafood chinese and and and and. It is then that I see this object that has blocked the sun towering over one buffet carefully selecting morsels onto his plate.
Now I know that sometimes the truth may be stretched a little but Petal will confirm this. This bloke, an american is huge. Had to duck through normal doorways and sixe wise at least three time towards four of me. I cowered behind old mate with the hatchet behind the BBQ. Fair dinkum, had ti tip the scales at 250kg live weight, don't know skinned and gutted, but the extraordinary thing he wasn't out of proportion or appear to have any difficulty with movement, except he was three time wider than the chair.
After this experience we had our first graze of many and unlike another CHinese we went to the food was excellent, apart from the fact that Petal upset me in the end informing me I had missed the buffet of eight different flavours of ice cream having opted for the machine dispensed soft whip.
Could not even go back and try the other ice cream as I walked out with mouth pointed skywards so as not to spill anything. Total price including drinks and ti[p $25.00.
Now head south east to a small backwater of Pigeon Forge for a restful couple of days.
Someone did'nt tell me about Pigeon Forge. Best described at the Las Vegas for Kids, crossed with the Gold Coast. Shuttle tram like trolleys running between campgrounds picking up patrons to deliver them to the attractions.
Late last night the petal heard a noise coming from the AC unit on the roof, somewhat akin to the ticking of a terrorist bomb, so me every so bravely with a belly full of Bud, a trusty torch and my extensive knowledge of A/C climb the ladder on the rear of the Luvshack and edge closer across the roof in the dark with 4.99 LED Dick Smith torch in hand. Didn't need the torch cause the blue arc of electricity lit the area anyway. Courteous instructions to Petal to shut the system down or similar words, brought people looking out of the mobile recreation vehicles.
Bottom line is it doesn't happen in fan mode so must be something to do with the A/C thermostat. Have to be attended to on Monday.
Not much more so must away and make my bed in the air conditioned amenities block
