Early start for a long day with not much happening.
Today we travelled from Columbus to Bardstown in Kentucky the home of Bourbon in US.
First stop is a RV yard in West Alexandria were I meet Darren who I have been talking to via email and we have a look around a few fifth wheels and talk to him with a number of issues. He gives us the heads up on a manufacturer which may require a quick trip to Indiana after I talk to the owner.
The Major Bourbon players of the US are located here due to the limestone soils which run through the area and give the water from the springs a certain property. Might have to put a teaspoon of lime into the old homebrew on the return.
Travel today through Louisville Kentucky was magnificent with HUGE homes and stables on horse ranches due to it being the home of horse racing.
We stopped at a roadside diner, once again, I had a campfire steak platter which came to the table wrapped in an alfoil packet and had the tenderest steaks out. Petal ordered the apple pancakes which on its arrival we found that Jana Pittman could not hurdle and that was without the 11 litre bucket of cream which was quite tastefully placed on the top.
Our arrival at Wild Turkey was too late for the tour so settled for the tasting instead and talked to the staff at the visitors centre for a long time. They said that Australia was their largest export of Bourbon in the world.
Just interrupting yesterday’s comments to say that as I write this its 6am Tuesday and watching the news and they are forecasting a 109 degree for today. We intend on driving the 127 today to Nashville and look at the world’s largest yard sale (Garage Sale). It runs for about 500-600 kms I believe.
Anyway back to yesterday. One of the ladies advised us of a state park camping area near Jim Bean where we are going tomorrow so we proceeded to this campground which adjoins the local golf club. Bloody beautiful with tarred pads for the RV, water, power for $18.
Got out the portable Webber and fired it up with hear beads and cooked spare ribs that I had marinating in Jack Daniels No. 7 bbq basting sauce. Turned out excellent and will be on the dinner menu again.
Whilst on the bbq subject, they talk a different bloody language over hear, Should have seen the trouble I had getting direction to the section in Wal Mart that sold the heat beads. BBQ????? What’s that? After some time Oh yeah, grill. Heat Beads???????? Don’t even know what their equivalent is but after playing charades with old mate he ended sending me to the right section. O.k. we got there in the end.
Night all.
