Lib and I are off to the States to see for ourselves whether Elvis has actually left the planet or is it another conspiracy.

The wash up
Sorry been a bit slack so here is the wash up.
We got a taxi to JFK and spent a while before a relatively uneventful flight home with a stopover in LA.
On arrival three of the four bags followed us with one recalcitrant going its own way. Petal freaked then got angry and we reported the matter with the rep saying we would be contacted within twenty four hours.
We caught a shuttle to the central coast and spent the next two days getting over jet lag.
When I wasn't contacted by the bag people, I contacted them and they said they thought they had located our bag still in the US at LA. Trust us for buying a bag in the US which refused to leave its homeland. The next day, saturday I was contacted and told that it was with the happy cabbie from Newcastle. He contacted me and we met at Caltex near Wyong where I was reunited with our bag to the delight of Petal.
Seems that the complete handle has been ripped of the new bag and I have to lodge a damages claim. We will see how we go.
Anyway after some internal family surprises we returned to the Ponderosa at Utungun on the tuesday.
Since then things have been rolling along with the import of the fifth wheeler from the Us to the point where I am lodging and import application with the Fed Govt today. Prices have been confirmed with the Us and once approval is granted which they assured me will be forthcoming, building can commence. Will keep you posted.
Farm is fine and Tarn has done a wonderfull job in house/dog sitting.

Monday 30 August 2010
Simple plan today. Off to see the old girl, the Statue of Liberty.
Learned something interesting though. Petal turned around at one stage in the souvenir shop and thought I was talking to someone. Actually I was standing and listening to a mannequin of the builder of the SOL and learned that the inside frame was actually constructed by Gustav Eiffel a long time before he built the famous tower. Learn something new every day. From there we went to the NYPD Museum, little bit disappointing, before coming home to pack all the shite of six week prior to departure tomorrow.
Saturday 28 August and Sunday 29 August 2010
Start of with not a good start. We head to B H Photos a Camera and Electrical Company that I have bought a fair few things from over time to find they are closed saturday and open Sundays. Will talk about that later but from there we have a wander to Madison Square Gardens to find the tours are not on due to renovations. OK from there we go to Times Square and generally have an easy day with entertainment by the naked cowboy.
Sunday
Ok today has to be better so off we go to the New York PD Museum only for Petal to inform me about a block from it that it is closed on Sundays. Back to the B H Photos were we find the most amazing store out run by a thousand employees all wearing little doilies on their head. No wonder they were shut saturday.
This store has to be seen to be believed. All departments over two floors. Cameras Lenses, binoculars, sound, television. If it is not on the shelf you see one of a bank of consultants in that department. While you are talking to him he sends a request to stores and it arrives in a plastic bucket on the most sophisticated overhead roller system you have seen. Once you have made your choice either from the wall or the counter he prints a docket and rives it to you. They punched my name into the computer and up it came. Changed a couple of details and bobs your uncle. The article is on its way to the cashier. So on you go and make another choice in another department and give him your docket. He scans it and the new docket he gives you is has combined the two. And so on until you want to leave. You then turn up to the cashier, pay your docket and he hands over everything that has been delivered to him. Unbelievable.
Off from there to a bit of Kouth and Kulture for the old fella and we visit the Museum of Modern Art until we ditch and head back to Times Square for a latte and people watching before heading home. Did find a girl of the night in the subway. See Photo
